Il Valore Marchese De Petri Sangiovese 2007

It's fortunate that I've had a Sangiovese before. Otherwise, I'd be very, very unclear on where the name of this wine begins and ends. It's a little like Tikki Tikki Tembo after he falls into the well. The poor little bugger almost dies because it takes so long for people to say his full name. I hope the Il Valore Sangiovese never falls in a well. Because if it does, it's screwed.

So, anyway, now that I've begun this review on a completely pointless note, I'll get down to business.

Joy picked up this bottle the same day she bought the Amaicha Torrontes. That sets the bar pretty high for this wine, as we both immediately loved the Amaicha Torrontes. It may or may not be fair to compare the two, one being a white from South America and the other a red from the Puglia region of Italy, but like a father taking the remote control away from a weeping child so he can watch wrestling, all I can say is "life ain't fair, kid. Now get me another donut."

First off, I'd just like to say that this wine is very, very tart. It has a pungent, spicy aroma and a dry, sour taste to it that lingers well after you've set down the glass. I realize after some contemplation that the primary flavor (other than, you know, grapes) is quite cranberry-esque. It almost reminds me of Ocean Spray Cranberry-Juice Cocktail, although with alcohol. I imagine it'll pair quite well with Craisins. Or maybe, you know, meat.

Overall, this is a decent red that helps fight urinary tract infections. I'll give it 3 out of 5.

Traders Joes, $3.69

Wow. It's not enough for wine to be good for the heart. You had to go find some other bodily system that it's good for.

This is one of my new favorite cheap wines. Picked it up at TJ's for $3.00 on a whim and went back for more. Yep it has a lasting sassy tang!

    From a wine non snob...
This little Sangiovese is a jewel ... if you let it breathe for an hour before you drink, it is a very meaty Sangiovese that goes great with red sauce and meats.

I agree that it's best to open the bottle an hour before drinking. It may be useful to aerate as one pours, or use a decanter (I haven't tried that, yet). I know nor care not for Wine Spectator lingo, but this is an enjoyable wine, which I cannot say about any TBC that I've tasted. I have long enjoyed the Il Valore Chianti; at half the cost, this Sangiovese will become part of my weeknight wine repertoire.
