So for the first time we are sampling more than one wine from a single source. I purchased the two Le Snoots because of their cute bottles, and really for no other reason. I have to admire the marketing geniuses at Snob Hill Winery for their sense of humor. The image of well-dressed pigs sampling a glass on the label of each bottle is truly priceless. It also makes me recall fondly that classic Beatles song about piggies rolling in the dirt, and quietly hope that the words "Helter Skelter" aren't scrawled somewhere on the walls of the Snob Hill chateau.A couple nights ago, Joy reviewed the Le Snoot Merlot and gave it a 9 out of 10. I have to agree with her review, though I'm not quite as in love with it as her. I would like to mention it has some nice hints of vanilla in it, but she laughed at me when I pointed that out. It also tastes vaguely rose-petally which, since I love a good rose-petal stew and rose-petal sandwich, is not in the least a nonsensical assessment. Mmm. Yum. Rose petals. Give me more of that good stuff.
Tonight I review the Cabernet Sauvignon. True to form for a wine called Le Snoot, the bottle spit wine on me as I pulled out the cork. Is that a coincidence, or are the Le Snoot pigs trying to keep me down? True, this is a blog devoted to wines under $10 and the Le Snoots only cost me $9.49 each, but they were marked down from $13.49. Are the piggies resentful of their reduced station in life? Are they scornful of a blog devoted to $10 wine? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, like so many women in my life before Joy, I still like them even after they spit on me.
I think, like the merlot, that the cabernet is excellent. It has a smooth drinkability, but I don't think it's quite as memorable as the merlot. It is strong and very dry. I've been thinking about the merlot for two days now and the unique flavor profile it possessed. I doubt I'll do the same with this one. If you like a cabernet, I recommend it. Otherwise, go with the merlot.
My rating: 7 out of 10 on our new scale.
Harris Teeter, $9.49
